Why Is My Nuvo H2O Water Blue?

Why is my Nuvo H2O water Blue?

Imagine turning on your tap, only to be greeted by a stream of mysteriously blue water. While it may seem like a scene from a science fiction movie, the culprit might be closer to home. The problem could be your water treatment system.

Nuvo water softeners are renowned for their different approach to water treatment. Instead of using traditional salt-based systems, Nuvo employs a citrus-based, chelation process to reduce water hardness. This innovative method is effective in preventing scale buildup without the need for sodium unlike their counterparts, traditional salt-based water treatment systems.

Despite their many benefits, Nuvo water softeners have been associated with an unexpected side effect – blue water. This peculiar occurrence has left homeowners scratching their heads and wondering how a water treatment system designed to enhance water quality could lead to a colorful conundrum. But that’s why I wrote this blog. I wanted to answer your question “why is my nuvo water blue?”, so you can stop worrying.

Infographics explaining how a nuvo h2o can turn water blue.

New Cartridge Can Make Your Nuvo H2O

Most commonly, when introducing a new cartridge to your Nuvo H20 water treatment system can cause your water to have a blue color. These cartridges are hyper charged when they are released into your system, they typically turn the water blue. But there is no need to worry. Your water is completely safe and healthy to consume, and the blue color goes away in a couple days.

Copper Piping

Copper piping is the least common cause of blue water in your home. It’s common for Copper pipes to be used in homes and businesses throughout the valley. After all, Arizona is known as the copper state, for its’ abundance of copper. A Nuvo water treatment system is specifically known for cleaning your plumbing system. A Nuvo actually descales your pipes and helps remove minerals from your water. That being said, the water running through the Nuvo is descaling and cleaning the copper pipes. As it is descaling and cleaning the copper pipes the loose buildup of minerals and debris can cause the water to have a blue tinted color.

Bad cartridge?

Not as rare as the copper pipe issue, but also extremely rare is a bad cartridge. Here at robins plumbing we did experience this a couple of times during a very short period of time. The manufacturer had an issue during production and a few bad cartridges were made to the public. They quickly found the issue and replaced any cartridges that made it out free of charge. So, although it can happen, it is rare and will quickly be remedied.

In Conclusion

There are a few reasons your water can turn blue when you have a Nuvo H2O. In most cases it’s nothing to worry about. The actual reason for color is a high level of the citrus enzyme used in the chelation process. The enzyme is completely safe, even to consume. Funny side note, during a training session the rep from Nuvo even brought samples of the enzyme in block form for our team to taste. Apparently, it reminded them of sour candies from the ice cream truck as kids. So, if your water turns blue you should decipher why, in case an action is needed but there is nothing to fear.
