Signs That Your Residence or Business Needs To Be Repiped

Here Are Some Signs That Your Residence Or Business May Need To Be Re-piped!

A repipe is the process of replacing the existing water pipes in a residence or business with new pipes. We typically perform this process when the existing pipes are damaged, corroded, or unable to function properly. Repiping can involve replacing just the pipes in a specific area of the building, or the entire plumbing system.

The process of repiping typically begins with a thorough assessment of the existing pipes and the condition of the plumbing system. A professional plumber or licensed contractor will then determine the best course of action, which could be as simple as patching up a leak or as complex as replacing the entire plumbing system.

The plumbers will typically shut off the main water supply to the building, remove the old pipes and install new pipes in their place during a repipe. You can make new pipes from different materials. Plumbers use different materials for repiping, such as copper, PEX, PVC, and CPVC, based on the specific needs of the building and their recommendations. After installing the new pipes, they test the system. Testing the system makes sure there are no leaks and that the water pressure is adequate.

It’s worth noting that repiping a building can be a complex and time-consuming process, requiring specialized skills and equipment. It’s always best to hire a licensed professional plumber. A professional plumber ensures they complete the repiping job correctly and safely, thanks to their experience.

There are several signs that indicate your residence or business needs to be repiped:

1. Low water pressure: Are you experiencing low water pressure throughout your home or business? Low water pressure could be a sign of corroded or clogged pipes.

2. Discolored water: Is the water coming out of your faucets discolored (brown, yellow, or rusty)? Discolored water may indicate that your pipes are corroded, rusted, or compacted with sediment.

3. Leaks: Have you noticed leaks in your pipes? Leaks in your pipes could signal that you need to replace damaged pipes. This includes copper.

4. Unpleasant odors: Are you noticing a foul smell coming from your pipes or faucets? Odors coming from your pipes or faucets could be a sign that your pipes are corroded or have bacteria buildup.

5. Old pipes: Does your residence or business have old pipes? They may be more likely to become corroded or damaged over time. If your building is older than 30 years and you’ve never done a repipe, it’s probably a good idea to have it checked by a licensed plumbing professional.

6. Frequent repairs: Have you found yourself having to frequently repair your pipes or fixtures? Overall, repiping your home or business could be more cost-effective.

7. A leak under your foundation:  Slab leaks are costly, and when there is one there is a high likelihood of additional under slab leaks.  This is an opportunity to replace the piping under the foundation and replace it with new piping through the attic.
